Characters
Types of characters at Accursed Lands:
PCs or Player Characters:
These characters are controlled by actual live people sitting behind a
computer, playing the game. They are assumed to be the main characters
in the story that is unfolding, much like a book focuses on certain
characters. Of course, each of you will live a different story as you
play, but the idea of treating yourself as a main character in a story
is a good analogy as to how you should treat the game.
NPCs or Non Player Characters:
These characters are controlled by computer programs, and attempt to make
the world seem more populated and alive, giving you extra opportunities to
interact with people. As they are computer controlled, you do have to
cut them a bit of slack, and you can't expect them to be as interactive as
a PC, but you should try and treat them as close to a regular player as
possible. Occasionally, a creator might animate an NPC to roleplay a bit
as well.
vNPCs or virtual Non Player Characters:
These characters are controlled by your imagination. We couldn't possibly
lend life to 100,000 people in a large city, so you have to help us out by
imagining a couple of them. You might occasionally also have a room
echo pop up to remind you of the presence of the vNPC, or have a vNPC
interact with you when you use certain commands in a shop. In any case,
if you are in a room that would make sense to be filled with people, like
a noisy tavern, imagine a couple vNPC in there, and roleplay with them
if you want. You should also try and treat these as closely to a regular
player as possible. It is silly to think that you can drag a corpse
through a city full of vNPCs and not have one recognize you later.
